Students from Seattle’s Rainier Beach’s South Shore Middle School’s leadership program organized and led a walkout to protest gun violence in schools.

All of the middle school’s 200 students participated in the walkout, according to interim Principal Justin Hendrickson. The demonstration included speeches from students on the importance of greater gun control in schools.

The March 14 walkout was part of the National Walkout Day organized by young people after 17 people died in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. A former student faces charges in the Florida shooting.
