State Sen. Bob Hasegawa launches mayoral bid

This week, State Sen. Bob Hasegawa (D-Seattle) launched his campaign to become the next mayor of Seattle.

Hasegawa joins a field that includes Nikkita Oliver, Cary Moon and former Mayor Mike McGinn.

Hasegawa’s candidacy became public on Monday, the day before incumbent Mayor Ed Murray announced he was ending his bid for re-election.

Hasegawa officially launched his campaign at an event on Tuesday.

Hasegawa, 64, was a local and national union leader who started representing the 11th Legislative District in 2005, first in the House of Representatives and then in the Senate. He grew up on Beacon Hill.
