Beacon Hill took to the street Saturday for The Station Coffeehouse’s 6th annual block party.
Temperamental weather didn’t stop hundreds from filling a full block of 16th Ave South with dancing, double dutch and street art, as well as energetic performances from over a dozen local artists like Shontina And The Sugar Shack, JusMoni, Draze and DoNormaal.
It was a breath of fresh air as soaring entry fees and crushing crowds have made summer festivals like Bumbershoot and the Capitol Hill Block Party less and less accessible each year.
Station owners Leona and Luis Rodriguez’s commitment to their community was clear. They partnered with Beacon Arts and environmental justice organization Got Green to put on the party and prioritized local vendors, musicians, visual artists, hosts and sponsors, even rebuffing Mayor Murry’s request to make an official appearance.
