The Seattle Globalist was recognized at the annual Society of Professional Journalists’ Region 10 Excellence in Journalism gala with the 2016 Innovation Award for “Your City, Your Story, Your Voice,” the Globalist’s Community Media Workshop series. The Globalist also got first place for General Excellence in the Small Daily Print and Online category.
The workshop series, led by Community Engagement Editor Christina Twu and Creative Director Sarah Stuteville, provide instruction in developing and pitching story ideas, reporting basics, and digital photography.
The competition included news organizations in Washington state, Oregon, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.

Government and Politics Reporting, 2nd place, Alex Garland, The Seattle Globalist. “Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders walked away from the microphone as activists Mara Jacqueline Willaford and Marissa Johnson disrupted a rally in Seattle.” (See photo above.)
CAIR-WA honors Globalist with “Courage in Journalism” award
The Council on American-Islamic Relations of Washington State (CAIR-WA) also honored The Seattle Globalist with its Courage in Journalism Award earlier this month, for “work to recruit and empower reporters from diverse communities and covering oft-missed news stories important to the public interest.”
