This Halloween, Saturday, October 31st, Short Run Comix & Arts Festival presents their fifth annual showcase of indie comix, zines, art books, small press lit, poetry, animation, and more.
The spacious Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center will overflow with over 200 artists from across the country between 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, with comics trick-or-treating for the kids, innovative animation by Seattle Experimental Animation Team (SEAT), mask making, an epic bake sale, and swag bags filled with comics and other surprises.
Jaimee Garbacik will launch The Ghosts of Seattle Past-a collaborative atlas of memories. The audience will create hybrid texts combining illustration and poetry with Kundiman poets Jane Wong, EJ Koh and Michelle Peñaloza. Most Ancient will present a Virtual Reality art and sound experience.
Special guests this year include indie comics couple Charles Forsman, founder of Oily Comics, and Melissa Mendes, member of the global feminist artists collective Ladydrawers. Celebrated Northwest visionary Jim Woodring will unveil Frank in the 3rd Dimension, a volume of 3D vignettes. Outsider artist and animator, Bruce Bickford, gives us a peek at his new colossal graphic novel, Vampire Picnic.
After the festival, join us at Hilliard’s in Ballard for our Halloween party with indie rock storytellers Your Heart Breaks and punk quartet Mommy Long Legs!
This Halloween extravaganza will conclude a month-long arts celebration around Seattle, including art shows at Joe Bar and the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, artists’ talk at the Capitol Hill Library, and a comix documentary screening at the Northwest Film Forum.
